Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Elementary School is committed to fostering the cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth and development of our students in a loving, nurturing and safe environment. We believe that the educational experience provided by the school must include an emphasis on spirituality and Christian living, a sound academic preparation and curriculum intended to help each child develop as responsive, competent persons with a strong concept of self-worth, self-discipline, and a commitment to principles of peace and justice.

Curriculum
Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Elementary School is accredited by the Mississippi State Department of Education and by the Cognia Institute. We follow the Catholic Diocese of Jackson Curriculum Standards. The curriculum includes instruction in the following subjects: Religion, Reading, Writing, Math, English, Social Studies and Science. Additional instruction is provided in the areas of Music, Art, Technology and Physical Education. Guidance Counseling and Library Services are available.

Title I
Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Elementary School participates in the federally funded Title I program. The program provides eligible students with computer-assisted instruction & tutoring services in Math and Reading.

Religious Education/Activities
All students participate in religious education classes offered at the school. In addition, all students will participate in the Masses and prayer services. Family and friends are welcome to attend the scheduled school Masses and prayer services.

Standardized Testing
Terranova is administered according to Diocesan Policy. Terranova is given in grades 2nd  through 6th in the month of April.

Age requirements
Kindergarten: Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1st of the calendar year in which the school year begins.
First Grade: Students must be 6 years old on or before September 1st of the calendar year in which the school year begins.
