Sr. Thea Bowman Required Summer Reading List

Pre-K3 and PreK4
Parents should select one of the books listed and read this book aloud to and with their child. The bold print title with the asterisk* is a good book for reviewing counting and colors.

*NOTE: Please know that our students in grades K - 6th will participate in the STB School wide Reading Fair to be held in October 2015. So, please make sure that your child reads the required books and prepare a project backboard.
Grades K-1st
The Kindergarten and 1st grade students will be required to read two (2) books from the summer reading list. Students in the grades listed are required to read the bold print title with the asterisk* for that grade. Kindergarten and first grade students will be asked to share one thing that they liked about one of the two books that they have read.

Grades 2nd - 6th
The students in grades 2nd to 6th are required to read three (3) books. Students in the grades listed are asked to read ONE OF THE BOLD PRINT TITLES with the asterisk* for that grade. As well as, two additional books from the list provided or of their choice. Each student should complete a journal writing or summary of what they read and liked about each book.

Additional information and rubrics for class assignments on the books read will be given when the students report to school in August, 2016.

Incentives to Read: Students who read more than 3 books and complete their journal writing will receive “READING PRINCIPAL TOKENS.” Journal writing should include title, author, plot, setting, conflict, and resolution. Also, include: 1) What you liked about the book? and 2) Would you recommend the book to a friend? If so, why?
