Sr. Thea Bowman School
Begins Construction on Multipurpose Building
Construction has begun on the new Multipurpose building at Sr. Thea Bowman School in West Jackson. Preparations to lay the foundation of the building, which will house a gymnasium, performing arts center, and cafeteria facilities for Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic School is being handled by Laws Construction Company. The project is scheduled to be completed within 8-10 months.
Parishioners at Christ the King Catholic Church have spearheaded several fundraisers for this project. “This is a true testament to the commitment and partnership our parishioners extend to the school,” says Pastor Ricardo Phipps of the West Jackson Catholic Community. “Our pledge to continue the tradition of providing stellar educational opportunities within this community is evident as we seek to provide a place for our children to participate in organized athletic and other wellness activities. Our goal is to ensure that their academic and spiritual growth is accompanied by a healthy physical development.”
Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic School begins its fourth academic year in August 2009 under the direction of Shae Goodman-Robinson as principal. It is the fruit of the blending of St. Mary’s Catholic School and Christ the King Pre-Schools, which have been the posts of Catholic Education in West Jackson for many years. The mission of Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic School is to provide a loving, Christ-centered environment with a quality education rooted in the development of character, compassion and Gospel values.
